The business environment is becoming increasingly dynamic, complex and unpredictable where technology,\nglobalization and changing competitive approaches impact on overall performance. As a result of this reality, the\nfuture of many businesses depends upon their ability to innovate. Innovation is crucial in the current business\nscenario. From this point of view, the research aims to investigate the characteristics of SMEs concerning their\ninnovation and whether they have developed effective strategies. Moreover, it aims to ascertain which strategies,\ninnovation barriers and types they employ. The data used in this study were mostly retrieved from Albanian Institute of\nStatistics (INSTAT). The data were also collected through a survey that tests strategies, innovation types and factors\ninfluencing innovation for SMEs in Albania. The collected data were analyzed using Statistical Package for the Social\nScience (SPSS). The results of the study showed that there are some relations between some characteristics of\nSMEs and strategies, innovation types and barriers....
Over the years, some of the MSE have grown extremely large and profitable and on the other hand, many others\nhave failed or have not been as successful as they might have been. Even if their enormous contribution to\neconomic development and employment is undeniable, governments policy still fail to identify the determinants that\nare responsible for the growth and failure of MSE. So the research study was undertaken with the intension of\nidentifying those factors responsible for success and failure. Data was collected from MSE in Ambo and the\nregression result shows that only Age of business, record and borrowing were seen as significant in predicting the\nbusiness success with p values less than 0.01....

High-technology enterprises are increasingly developing their technological advantages in foreign countries. In\ndoing so, they need to make the decision whether to organize the R and D activity inside the organization or outside\nthrough alliance. The perceived assumption suggests that technological complexity dictates the internal organization\nof the R and D activity. However, emerging evidence suggests that technological complexity induces external alliance\nfor the transformation of the organizational knowledge to new product. We test this proposition that there is a positive\ncorrelation between technological complexity and the external alliance of the firm. The hypotheses find support that\ncomplexities of (i) Scale, (ii) Scope, (iii) Intra-clusters and (iv)Inter-cluster of the patent claims predict external alliance.\nHowever, the odds of the external alliance are not in a linear manner. Rather, the odds of these predictors are high, low\nand high again. The article discusses theoretical and practical implications....
This paper sheds light on the role of religion as a separated institutional logic on firm behavior and performance,\nparticularly in the context of corporate development strategies and decision making. We argue that religiosity in a\nfirms environment influences decision making of organizations when initiating and evaluating corporate development\nstrategies and hence leading to uneven distribution of economic activity. We focus on leveraged buyouts (LBOs) an\nimportant strategic initiative associated with high levels of perceived risk from increased financial leverage, a drastic\nchange in governance structure, and potential conflicts between stakeholders. We contend that local religiosity reduces\nthe likelihood of LBO transactions that nonetheless creates a favorable selection process resulting in a lower rate of\nLBO bankruptcies. We find results supporting our predictions in a unique sample of 4,633 US buyouts in 1980-2003....
The issue of understanding and evaluating sustainability of farming organizations such as family farms, agrifirms,\nagro-corporations, agricultural cooperatives, etc. is among the most debated by the researchers, farmers,\ninvestors, policy-makers, interest groups, and public at large around the globe. This paper tries to unpack the\nsustainability suggesting a holistic framework for defining and assessing sustainability of farming enterprises. It gives\nanswers to two important questions: ââ?¬Å?what is sustainability of farming enterprise?ââ?¬Â and ââ?¬Å?how to assess sustainability\nof farms of different type?ââ?¬Â First, evolution of the ââ?¬Å?conceptââ?¬Â and the major approaches for assessing sustainability\nof farming organizations is discussed. More adequate definition of the sustainability is suggested as ability of a\nparticular of farming enterprise to maintain its governance, economic, social and ecological functions in a long term.\nNext, a framework for assessing sustainability of farming enterprises is proposed, including a system of appropriate\nprinciples, criteria, indicators, and reference values for evaluating governance, economic, ecological and social\naspects of sustainability as well as an approach for their integration and interpretation. The ultimate objective of\nthis study is to work out an effective framework for assessing sustainability of farming organizations in the specific\neconomic, institutional and natural environment in which they exist and evolve, assist agri-business management\nand strategy formation, and agricultural policies and forms of public intervention in agrarian sector....
